The doujinshi is to be read from right to left.
It's really important to read my comment!

To explain why Poland always refused to surrender:
"The Polish President and Commander-in-chief escaped to Romania, and the last of the Polish troops surrendered on October 6, five months after the end of the month-long Siege of Warsaw, however the state of Poland never officially surrendered. Under German occupation, the Polish army continued to fight underground, as Armia Krajowa and forest partisans – Leśni. The Polish resistance movement in World War II in German-occupied Poland was one of the largest resistance movements in all of occupied Europe."

I made Poland look battered because I think it seems pretty accurate:
"The Polish September Campaign was an instance of total war. Consequently, civilian casualties were high during and after combat. From the start, the Luftwaffe attacked civilian targets and columns of refugees along the roads to wreak havoc, disrupt communications and target Polish morale. Apart from the victims of the battles, the German forces (both SS and the regular Wehrmacht) are credited with the mass murder of several thousands of Polish POWs and civilians. Also, during Operation Tannenberg, nearly 20,000 Poles were shot at 760 mass execution sites by special units, the Einsatzgruppen, in addition to regular Wehrmacht, SS and Selbstschutz."

As you can see France and England completely failed to support Poland.
They didn't expect Germany to defeat Poland that fast and were now busied mobilizing to be prepared for defending their own country.

Of course, there are a lot of things I left out and some inconsistencies but it's just too complex orz

It was important to me to emphasize how brave Poland was athough being all on his own (and that the poles, in contradiction to the widespread belief, didn't surrender very quickly ).

Well, I think I kinda failed since there was just too much left out by me but I wanted to finish the doujinshi as soon as possible because the longer It took me to complete it the more uncomfortable it made me feel.

Oh, and I gave Germanys and Russias uniforms "slightly" different designs because it didn't feel right to me to draw them in their (canon) casual uniforms. I just wanted to make them appear slightly less recognizable so I don't have to think about the events depicted here everytime I see them. They are based on the Uniforms they did wear in the "To the unfinished tomorrow" -chapter and the uniforms I believe himaruya based the them on.

Russia and germany are usually two of my favourite characters but in this Doujinshi I don't like them at all. It was one of my goals to make them very unlikeable here - the only appropriate option for me when drawing something concerning the Invasion of Poland and other events that left so many people killed or wounded.

I hope this doesn't sound stupid or what, but
it was pretty easy to keep most of them "in character" (or so i hope at least). That applies especially to Poland and Russia.

I hope i didn't offend anyone. After all, this doujinshi is just my attempt to "translate" and interpret the events "into hetalia".

FYI: Axis Powers Hetalia is basically a Webcomic/Manga/Anime where the characters are personificated countries who represent historical events in short comic strip

I'm ... really impressed. You must have put a lot of effort into not only drawing but finding information as well... The fact that there are such detailed (historicaly accurate) notes under every page amazes me.

Characters don't seem to be OOC at all (well, maybe except Germany... -somebody has already asked that in comment under one of previous pages, but- it's been always bothering me too, how Germans see the WW2 today..)

And I love that you've used not only black and white, but also red colour.

*sniff* This page made me cry!

(nicht wundern warum ich jetzt wieder englisch schreibe^^)

I think I’m in love with you… platonically.

And I want to salute you…this is such a difficult and touchy subject I wouldn’t probably dare to touch with a 4 meter long stick.

I have to admit, as a pole I have been a little wary (though still excited) of reading Your doujinchi. But You managed to handle everything just fine…even in more detailed fashion than I remember it from books (but it’s been a long, long time I’ve been taught History as a school subject) What can I say, every page is a masterpiece to me, and reading your informative author comments was like a big sugar-coated cherry on top. Though it pains me to see Poland so mutilated, this was exactly what happened in 1939…

It had to be really difficult for you to show Germany as an oppressor..(in your dA page says you’re from Germany and so I assume you’re german :XD: ) And I also like how you showed Germany as an impersonation of the whole nation and not one person… though he is pretty scary...what ideology can do to people *sigh*

And thank you for showing such a brave face of Poland and keeping Feliks in character at the same time. This guy is just too stubborn to give up ;)

How I wish Hetalia was more like your doujinchi and less moe… Then I would probably be more interested in the fandom…

And btw, you did a great job on the interpretation. I really liked it so far!

You really did an interesting and well done job...
relationship beetween russia and poland was really pretty... I mean, there is something intensive, maybe it's the expression you did on the character, i duuno.. And also I liked how treated some ''idea'' .

It was really great V_V So there is no word for what i feel i think!
