Trench foot is a medical condition caused by prolonged exposure of the feet to damp, unsanitary, and cold conditions. It is one of many immersion foot syndromes. The use of the word “trench” in the name of this condition is a reference to trench warfare, mainly associated with World War I.
[…] If left untreated, trench foot usually results in gangrene, which can cause the need for amputation. (Source: Wikipedia)

For the 33 guro challenge on tumblr!
I actually want to try to use the challenge for some historical Hetalia. The idea was that Arthur is a devoted officer in WW1 who had one of his feet amputated so the gangrene doesn’t spread.
Here he is waiting to get his bandages changed, being all stiff upper lip british :3

Many thanks to all the amazing people who kept me company during my livestream ;A;

THIS TOOK FOREVER AAAAAAAAAH

Awesome! This actually reminded me of Forrest Gump when Lieutenant Dan told Forrest and Bubba to 'take good care of your feet' as the first rule (during the war in Vietnam). I always wondered why until someone told me about trench foot. Good history note!

This reminds me of my grandfather. Brings back memories of stories my dad used to tell me about him. He had the same exact condition.
Other than that, well done. : ) It's very well drawn, I love the anatomy on Arthur. Just perfect, keep up the good work! ~ <3

oh my goodness! i come back from leaving DA for 2 months and i see several punpunichu posts 8)

this image of england is by far the most attractive i've ever seen ;_;
some of my favorite things about this is the detail you put into the uniform and the helmet and yet it's still a pleasantly simple image hahaha! love the sepia too, gives it a very old-timey feel. : ]

Wow. WOW! This is...dear heavens, this is simply fantastic in its realism and tone! You've captured the true essence of a realistic, more pragmatist Arthur. That you braved a theme so gritty and really divulged into such a dark historical era is commendable. :) Well conceived, well executed, and overall well done!

Very nice! Though, I'm wondering why he has a German Pickelhaube? Some British soldiers may have worn them, but it seems odd for Britain/Arthur himself to have one; assuming it isn't a trophy, that is.

Oh, I thought it was obvious that it was a trophy, since I don't think he would treat his own equipment so carelessly (letting it lay around in the dirt and resting his foot on it) ): Darn. I still have a lot to learn about symbolism.
Thank you!

I love the expression and history so much :D Though England was always like that with the stiff upper lip. In the time period of the war of 1812 and an amputation had to be done, the English had no sort of pain killer or alcohol (the latter only if an officer) and were expected to not cry out or scream. In one case, the battle had been particularly bloody and the surgeon's saw was dull and took twice as long causing the officer who was under his care to cry out to get on with it. As he had acted rather ungentlemanly, he had to apologize the next day...

Yeah, that is some pretty scary stuff if you think about what conditions people had to fight under. I have a lot of respect for them.
Oh well, Artie is no stranger to these things after all, though I suppose the two world wars were pretty shocking even to old nations like him ):
